Some of my most successful writing students aren’t the ones with the most talent—they’re the ones who figured out how to win their writing day before most people have their first cup of coffee.
My Wake-Up Call About Morning Choices
I used to be the queen of reactive mornings. I’d wake up and immediately check email, scroll social media, and respond to everyone else’s urgent needs. By 10 AM, I felt overwhelmed and behind. My writing? It got whatever energy was left over—which was usually nothing.
Then I had a revelation: What if I said YES to myself first thing every morning?
I started with just fifteen minutes—a simple “Writing Victory Routine” before I checked a single notification. That tiny morning YES changed everything. Suddenly, I was showing up to my writing desk with clarity and purpose instead of stress and distraction.
Your Morning Writing Victory Routine
Here’s the simple system that transformed my writing life:
• Goal Setting (5 minutes): Write down your top three writing priorities for the day
• Time Blocking (5 minutes): Schedule exactly when you’ll write and what you’ll accomplish
• Inspiration Input (3 minutes): Read one page from a writing craft book or motivational quote
• Project Planning (2 minutes): Review yesterday’s work and decide your next three steps
The magic happens because you’re choosing your day’s direction instead of letting it choose you. When you start with writing-focused intention, your best creative energy goes to your dreams, not other people’s emergencies.
Try This:
This week, design your own 15-minute morning Writing Victory Routine. Do this before checking any notifications. Notice how different it feels to approach your writing with intention.
You’ve got this! Go Write Something Brilliant!
