Fight For Your Peace

Fight For Peace

That seems an oxymoron, doesn’t it? Fight and peace in the same sentence?

Let me explain.

My husband surprised me with a few days at the beach. He worked long and hard to surprise me with this. I was so appreciative. We were up at 5 am to attend a training class and didn’t arrive at the beach until almost midnight that night. We were dog-tired when we arrived, but the smell of the saltwater and the sound of the waves lapping at the shore made us glad we made the push.

I woke up the following day knowing that I had a few days to read my Bible, edit my work in progress, and walk the beach. Then my phone started going off, text messages, emails, and life started to suck me in and steal my peace.

Before I knew it, it was after 11, and I hadn’t opened my Bible, eaten breakfast, or even enjoyed the beach. After the last tumultuous nine months, I wanted to appreciate that we were alive, together, spend some much-needed time with The Lord and just breathe in and enjoy life.

But life kept coming and I realized I had to fight to find peace. Ever been there?

I deliberately turned off everything—my phone, my emails, and anything else that would try to distract or weigh me down.

God will meet you if you are in a season of anxiety, tumult, or just plain hard life situations. Fight for your peace. Don’t give it up. Go to God and rest in Him.

I encourage you to find a quiet place, turn on some worship and praise Him. Call out his promises.  He will not fail you.

Here are some of the promises I had to declare.

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

John 14:27 NIV

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

Matt 11:28-30 NIV

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Psalm 91:1-2 NIV
