I Launched My Book. . . Was It Ready?

by Tari Faris, @FarisTari

Launch. I don’t know about you but the word launch brings images of rockets, missile, and even water balloons to mind. They all take preparation, calculation, and then release. After that, what has been launched is out of the launcher’s hands. They simply have to hope all the work they put in ahead of time pays off.

The word launch is very fitting for releasing a book. You write it, edit it, get it the best you can and then release.

I launched my first book this week. It was quite exciting to share You Belong With Me to readers. (I am not sure any other book I launch will be as exciting as the first book.) But now that it is launched, it is truly 100% out of my hands as to whether it will be a success or failure. I can help by promoting it but all the promotion in the world won’t mean a thing if I didn’t write a good book.

This is why we at learnhowtowariteanovel.com are always talking about writing, how to make it better, take it to the next level. What drew me to learnhowtowriteanovel.com and My Book Therapy initially was that when I met Susan May Warren, Rachel Hauck, and Beth K. Vogt. They talked about being committed that everything they wrote will be better than the last. Always learning, always growing.

I never want to be an author who believes they have arrived or that they have nothing left to learn. It is like swimming in a river. If you are actively trying to go further upstream you are going downstream.

What are you doing to take your writing to the next level? You are reading learnhowtowriteanovel.com so that is a great step one. But what else? Study the craft of writing. Read books. Take classes. Attend conferences.

My Book Therapy offers many classes and lessons at Novel.Academy for beginning writers as well as published authors wanting to build their careers. If you are not sure you are ready to jump into a membership-based subscription, then consider this month’s brilliant bundle that offers three classes for one low price.

Whether you are writing your first book for your hundred and first, how will it show your growth as a writer?

You Belong with Me

What Secrets Are Hiding Behind the Doors of this Small Town?

Real estate agent Hannah Thornton loves the historic community of Heritage, Michigan. Unfortunately, selling houses is not one of her fortes. She sees each house and the larger town of Heritage as something to be valued, not sold-off to the highest bidder. When a business mogul arrives in town determined to exploit the land and build a new strip mall, Hannah is determined to stop him from bulldozing her town’s past. At first no one supports her efforts—not even her best friend, Luke. Can Hannah help the town of Heritage see that true value lies in the things you cannot put a price tag on?

Even though Luke Johnson has grown up in Heritage as a foster child, he never truly felt like he belonged. Anxious to earn his place in the town and in Hannah’s heart, Luke applies for the job of assistant fire chief. But Luke does not anticipate the interview process to unearth secrets from his past he has kept carefully hidden. Will the pain of being honest be worth the risk? Can he pull down the walls he’s erected around his bruised heart?
