What to do with All The Things

I’m still trying to figure out what I did this weekend…

Okay, Football. Check.

Grocery Shopping. Check.

Church. Check.

Umm…the rest of my weekend passed in a sort of blur. Maybe it was because I spent the entire last week on top of Denali, freezing, hungry and trying to rescue my team of women from a crevasse. Yeah, that’s tiring. I needed a brain break (so I left them there. But fear not—I sent in a team of honorable fellas to keep them company).

Do you ever feel like your day just sort of tumbled by, and you’re not sure what you accomplished? Like everything you planned on doing just got scattered to the wind…

Or maybe you feel crushed. That you have TOO MUCH to do.

I get that too. It sorta feels like this.

I have a trick for you!

So…for a long time, I’ve used the Top Three Trick for getting stuff done.

See, I plan my week, and then I pick the TOP THREE THINGS that need to get done in my FIRST time block of my day and I plan them into my weekly calendar spread.

Like this: (sorry for the scribbles.)

That way I know the important things will get done, even if everything else falls to the wind.

And, best part is, we integrated the idea of the TOP THREE into the 2019 planner.

(HINT: When you put the TOP THREE at the top of your day, you have already accomplished the things weighing on your mind! Which frees you up to be creative for the rest of your epic day!)

Now, here’s a few tricks:

  • Make a list of your priorities. Take the top 15 for this week. (3×5 days)
  • Look at your list of priorities for the week, and figure out how much TIME each is going to take.
  • Pick the Top Three that will collectively take up your first Time Block of your work dat. (e.g. I try and fill 2 hours, from 8-10 am)
  • Spread your priorities over the week.
  • You can reorder your priorities in the evening if you want to leave them blank. (see above illustration)
  • AND…if you want (and this is my favorite trick) Create priority categories – e.g. Finances, Marketing, Personal, etc. and assign them to a specific day (e.g. Monday’s are Marketing, Wednesday are Finances, Thursdays are Classes and Fridays are Personal). This method just gets my mind around the subject matter before I jump in.

Your To-Do list doesn’t have to take over your life. Your Brilliant Writing Life is manageable. 😊 (and for more about the planner, go to: www.mybrilliantwritingplanner.com!)
