What Voices are You Hearing?

You’re very accustomed to hearing voices in your head. In fact, you take pride in having those conversations with imaginary people who only exists in the gray matter between your years.

After all, you are a writer.

But there are other voices in your head. Oh, not the ones who are telling you to murder the protagonist or devise a happily ever after. It’s the little people who constantly tell you how you will fail.

There they are, right in your face, reminding you of every time you’ve ever fallen short of the mark. What’s more, they’re telling the truth!

Yes, you did try to sell Tupperware in 1975 and you only sold two tumblers… to your granny. And all those boxes of supplies for your new silk floral arrangement business idea are now in the attic.

Those voices constantly remind you you’ve spent a lot of time, money and effort chasing rainbows and illusive dreams.

Yeah, some things didn’t work out, but here’s the thing. You got an idea, you tried it and it just didn’t work out. So what? You DID SOMETHING! That makes you light years ahead of other people who have a dream but never move in that direction. For them, their dream always remains a day dream.

I know those voices are talking to you about your dream to be a published author. You sit at the computer and they jump out of your head and sit right there on your shoulder. Shucks, they even thump your earlobes, smack you on the forehead and say, “whattya crazy?!”

I grew up as an athlete and one of my coaches once said, “It’s better to play and lose than to not play at all.” It didn’t believe it at the time because, like you, I enjoy winning. But time has proven that statement to be true.

You’re trying. That makes you way ahead of 86% of all the people on the face of the planet. Only fourteen percent of people ever pursue their dreams. You’re in the elite part of the human race.

Don’t listen to the wrong voices. Listen to the voice of possibility, hope and truth that will guide you as you pursue your writing career. Listen to the voice of your heart. Listen to the Voice of God’s Word that says you can do ALL things through Christ.

Keep up the great work!
