Last week we discussed the first step to spring into success: Define it. Hopefully, you’ve done that because unless or until you know what success is to you, you’ll never know what you’re aiming at.
Success is a journey, not a destination. It requires a conscious daily commitment to live in it. Right before I wrote this, took a short road trip. I had a destination in mind but getting to that place did not define my success. I didn’t commit to the destination, but rather to taking the trip. Each mile I rode, I was living in my success.
Your writing journey is the same. What you’ve defined as your own success, you must commit to. Each and every day you should commit to your journey. Please notice I didn’t say you must write every day. You’re not a machine. Sometimes the best thing to do to honor your commitment is to take in dinner and a movie.
Committing to your dream means you:
Plan for it. Even the busiest person in the world has some time during the week they could use to write. It just takes a little planning.
Honor it. It’s your dream. Give it a place in your heart.
Trust it. There is a reason that dream is within you. That’s not pie in the sky. It’s an honest desire. Believe that.
Keep your dream alive. You have that goal of being a published author. Nourish it.
Many individuals with a dream to be authors don’t commit to that pursuit because they believe it will be all consuming. It can be but it certainly doesn’t have to be. You can set time aside on Tuesdays why your children have afterschool activities. Or do online research while your family is watching a movie.
Commitment is a decision of the heart. Once you fully commit to it, you’ll figure out a way to make it happen. I promise.
How are you committed to your dream? Share it here.
