Want to write for the Young Adult market?

sarahsumpolec-for-mbt-pageSo….about a year ago I started seeing an increase in requests for storycrafting and editing help for books falling in the Young Adult market.  Probably had something to do with a little phenom called, um…Twilight?  But more and more authors are looking at this still growing market and wondering….how do I write for the children and teenagers out there?

Good question.

So, I turned to my good friend and multi-published Young Adult author, Sarah Sumpolec.  Sarah loves kidsof all ages!  She’s fun, and smart and knows how to connect with the hearts and minds of this audience.  She’s the author of the Becoming Bekka YA series (published by Moody Press)  and has been up for the American Christian Fiction Writer’s Book of the Year three times, as well as been a writing teacher and mentor for YA authors for years.  She’s also into theater, and movies — Her background includes more than fifteen years training in the theater and several years as an elementary teacher. By day she is a screenwriter and works for In Jesus’ Name Productions—a Christian movie studio—where she concentrates on script development and producing.  She’s also been in numerous plays and is active in her local theater. Cool, huh?

Which is why I asked Sarah to join our staff at My Book Therapy as our YA specialist – meaning, if you have a manuscript for the YA market that needs attention, or you simply need to know how to take it to the next level, Sarah is the one to turn to.  She knows her stuff.

But still…how do you write for this specialized market?

I’m so thrilled to announce a little gift for you this holiday season…after a year in development,  My Book Therapy presents: Get Your Youth on – How to write for the youth (children and teenage) market!
