Irresistible…that’s what you are….

(I have songs in my head this week). Sorry about missing yesterday’s post. I was creating my own irresistibleness here at home – surprised my daughter and her friends with valentine cupcakes at school, took my hubby out for lunch, and made “love pizza” (don’t get excited – homemade pizza with pepperonis in a heart shape) for the fam last night. Got kisses all around for my efforts (even from my daughter, in front of all her friends!)

Irresistible. That’s really what beauty is all about – it’s that compelling “somthingness” that makes a woman (or man) simply take over our hearts. Last time we met, we talked about how beauty either complements or accentuates the “eye of the beholder.”

Here’s a few fun examples from some of my favorite shows:

Return to Me….love that show. David Duchovny and Minnie Driver. About a man who loses his wife in a tragic accident and the woman who get her donor heart. They meet accidently, and find their way into a sweet romance. One of the BEST movies ever. Why is she irresistible to him? First, because he’s desperately lonely. And she complements that through her wide embrace of others. She has a wide “family,” while he’s a loner, and has a hard time caring even for himself (the scene where his dog eats from the kitchen drawer is hilarious and sad). She also adds to his strengths – she has a humor he finds endearing (remember the bottled water scene?) and her humor and strength encourages his own ebbing spirit to keep going (remember, he’s building a gorilla park, against all odds).

My favorite line is after she’s left, and he goes in to talk with the old guys, asking for her address. He doesn’t know what to do and says… “I ache for her.” She has a place inside him, and missing her has left a giant hole. Wonderful! Irresistible!

We were watching LOST last night (and wow, I am liking this season!), and my husband, who is a Nice Guy, throws a pillow at the TV when Sawyer tells Kate, “Maybe we can try” (to play house). Of course my daughter and I have our hands over our hearts, saying, “Awww…that’s so sweet!” Later, my dh asked, “Why does Kate love him? Doesn’t she know that Jack is SO much better for her?” Yes, but Jack isn’t broken (well, he is) or tortured (okay, he’s that too), but mostly, Jack can go on without Kate. Sawyer can’t. Beyond all that rogue cuteness is a man broken and desperate and Kate wants to fix him. But that’s also why Sawyer loves Kate. He sees someone who is “trouble” like him (accentuating), and yet has found a way to be decent and kind (complementing). I would also add that Sawyer has goodness inside him, and being with Kate makes that emerge. He’s a better man when he’s with her. And the fact that she cares for him, despite his darkness makes her irresistible to him.

How is your heroine irresistible? What draws her to your hero, and why can’t he live without her?

I’ll be posting today some of the entries for this week’s Beauty Contest – and talking about how they’ve made their heroines irresistible, so stop back!!
