What If I Can’t Do This

Recently, I’ve been re-reading the book “Fierce Faith” by Alli Worthington. This book talks about different fears we may have and ways (her battle plan) to combat them.

One of her chapters is called “What If I Can’t Do This,” and is all about the fear of failure.

I don’t know any writer who hasn’t asked themselves that question, or “what if I’m no good,” or any variation that leads to doubt or fear of failure.

Thankfully, there are ways to fight against our fear. I’ll give you three.
As mentioned in a previous post, one key to battle this fear is “Show Up.” That’s it. Just show up at your computer every day and put your hands on the keyboard and go! This isn’t perfection time. This is showing up and getting the words on the page. You know it’s all fixable through the editing and rewriting process.

The second key is “Don’t Quit.” Combined with the first step of just show up, you have a winning formula for writing.

Finally, and most important, is to pray. And I don’t mean a meek little prayer. Pray confidently! Be bold before God. He gave you this gift, so pray with confidence that He will guide you in the use of your gift.

Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) says:  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

God created us, created us to do good works, and He has prepared us. Remember that. Then:

  1. Show Up
  2. Don’t Quit
  3. Pray with Confidence

Do this every day. You never know where God will lead you from here.
