The Big Question

Happy Memorial Day. It’s a somber day, I know, because I think of all the people who gave their lives for our country. My son is in the Navy, and I’m ever cognizant of the sacrifice of so many mothers and wives who’ve lost loved ones. If you are one of these brave patriots, thank you for your sacrifice.

I’ve spent the past month at our new vacation home in Florida, getting it set up, painting, changing out light fixtures, building a deck, and I’m ever aware that, while God has given us this long-awaited dream, and we worked hard for it as well, we are also so very blessed. It makes me think about our purpose here on earth, and how we are to live each day to the fullest, aligned with who God created us to be.

The AFTER.

Much of the answer to that question, for me, has been writing novels. I’m an inspirational novelist, which means I feel particularly called to infused God’s truth into my stories. I write to encourage the body of Christ, and maybe awaken a desire for more of God in the lives of my readers. I was reading in Oswald this morning, “A missionary is created for the purpose of being God’s servant, one in whom God is glorified.” This is my purpose, in whatever I do, whether I’m a writer, or a mother, or a wife, or a teacher…or a soldier.

A servant.

Which means I need to be a good steward of all the things God has given me. My talents. My possessions (which really aren’t mine, right?), my relationships…my stories. So the question is, to honor those who have given us so much, what are we doing with our lives? How are we being a good steward of our blessings, our freedoms and our opportunities?

Just thoughts on my heart on this auspicious day.
