What Will December 31, 2019 Look Like For You?

by Alena Wendall, @alenawendall

Most of us started our year with a goal or two for the year.

If you are like me, you may have set some ambitious goals. In the spirit of transparency, here are a few of mine:

  • Lose Twenty Pounds.

These twenty pounds have been my constant companion for the last six years, ever since I turned forty. But alas, it’s time to part ways.

  • Have A Semi-Clean In-Box At The End Of Every Day.

I know, I know this one seems like it should be easy right? Keep in mind I manage two businesses and have the work load go along with it. And, I have a staff that loves, absolutely loves to fill my in-box.

  • Write At Least Six Days A Week.

This schedule would allow me to finish two books this year. I did mention, I set lofty goals?

You may be doing fantastic on your goals or you may have lagged a bit. May I suggest something? If you feel kind of lost or discouraged, try something different.

Put on your imagination hat. We are writers, should be easy right? Let’s fast forward to December 31st, 2019.Take a minute and picture yourself successfully achieving your goals.

  • What does it feel like in that moment for you? (Remember this is in the future.)
  • As you look back, what did your life look like on a daily basis?
  • Specifically, what habits did you put in place to achieve success?
  • What skills did you have to incorporate or learn to get there?
  • What old activities did you stop or add?

So often we set lofty performance goals and don’t examine or plan on how to get there.

So, I ask again. Imagine it’s December 31, 2019 and you’ve achieved your goals, what did you have to do to get there?

Blessings,

Alena T.
