When life derails your writing…

How’d your week go last week?

Oh, I had big plans. After being on the road for 2 weeks, I planned
to come home and write like a running back, dodging writers blockers and
heading for the end zone.

Not so much. My creativity felt like glue and I got taken down
with little yardage gained (aka word count) every day, scoring a meager 7,286
words written for the entire week.

Big. Fail.

Okay, I did a lot of research. And spent time with writer friends,
and attended a book signing, (and cleaned my house…that was a huge win…)

So maybe not a complete fail. But it felt like one.

I was feeling the weight of my word count (or lack thereof) as I went to Saturday’s Bethel Royals football game. Lord, help me to focus on enjoying my family, and this beautiful day, and NOT my frustrations for this week! (My prayer as I sat in the stands.)

(Here’s a pix of me and hubs at the game. I even look a little tired.)

We lost a great fight. The team waged a tough battle and were
finally taken down by an interception and touchdown with 1.30 left in the game.

Tough loss. Even the coach shed a few tears as he met the men in
the post-game huddle.

Then he spoke the words destined for my soul.

“I’m proud of you. You set your faces like flint into the task and
didn’t quit. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t, but you don’t quit playing!

Now, let’s get rid of any cry babying, and set your eyes on the truth. You serve a King who loves you! And He has set you on a
path to victory. So get up. Set your faces forward, like flint on the next
game.”

(BTW, this is the verse he’s referring to: Isaiah 50:7 – Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will. And I know that I will not be put to shame.)

So you didn’t get all your word count accomplished. Or whatever goals
you set for yourself last week. GET UP.  Set your face forward and like flint on the next chapter.

And if you need a little inspiration, I was encouraged by this song this week.

The Sovereign Lord helps you.

Set your face like flint and step out into your story. You can write something brilliant this week.

In His Name and for His Glory.

P.S. So, even tho we all
have crazy weeks that derail our plans, we don’t need to let it stop our
forward motion—
we just need a plan to get back on track! I use a method called
Time Blocking, and use a Time Template to organize my time. The great part is
that it allows me to keep moving forward, even when life tries to derail me.
AND, this method is part of
My Brilliant Writing Planner! Learn how it can keep you moving forward regardless
of what life throws at you in the Brilliant Planning course included with the purchase
of the planner.
(The Planner is $20 off regular price until October 31st!) Check it out here!
