This weeks verse, as we talk about the hero’s journey, is Psalm 45.

My heart is stirred by a noble theme
as I recite my verses for the king;
my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.

God has instilled in us a noble theme or noble cause. It may be to protect those we love, earn a nice living, be missionaries in foreign lands or ministry to the poor and needy.

We should all look for ways to minister to one another. After all, Jesus commands us in John 15 to love one another.

However, we also have a Noble theme, purpose, before the Lord. He’s given us access to Him through His son, Jesus. We are not longer veiled ones, kept outside the inner room, but we are given access to His heart.

Too often we stand afar-off, cloaking ourselves in fear and false humility.

Verse 11 of this Psalm says, “The King desires your beauty.” I love this verse. It’s one of my life sayings and pursuits.

God desires us. It’s why He created us and gave us access to Him through the death and ressurection of Jesus.

As writers, (or moms, or engineers, or admin assistants, whatever) we can ask Him, “what do You need me to do in this situtation.”

What is your noble cause? Apply this to your stories and characters. My reasoning is if I’m found in Christ, then so are my characters.

Be bold when you go before the Lord with your ideas and questions, yet have a teachable heart.

The psalmist wrote “my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.” He humbly waited for the Lord to inspire him, yet had confidence in his God-given ability.

We can do no less.
