That moment when you just. can’t. write…

It’s raining outside, my to-do list involves going to the
post office, and our electricity has shut off in the storm, so my laundry is
sitting in a wet lump in the dryer. My dogs are running low on food, (but they
love cheese sticks, so at least they have dinner) and I can’t quite fit into
that new dress I bought for a gala event this weekend. (Might have been the
popcorn I had for lunch).

None of it would be a big deal except I leave early tomorrow
morning for Nashville, for the annual ACFW conference.

Right now, I’d like to crawl into my pajamas and finish season
three of The Expanse (if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s an epic show on the Sci-Fy
channel), never mind start the next scene of my novel (because THAT’s actually what I had planned to do today). I’m feeling a little overwhelmed.

Actually, that was ten minutes ago.

In my overwhelmed state, I went out to my porch, sat down on
my swing, and opened up the Solver of All Problems…uh, Instagram.

I know, I know, it should have been the BIBLE, but good news, in that moment, God stepped in and said, “FINE,
if you’re going to look at Instagram, then I’ll have to show up there…”

And I saw this: (Thank you, Toby Mac!)

Right then I realized…God isn’t saying he’ll help me with
problems.

He is saying that HE’LL TAKE THEM.

“Hey—that to-do list? Give it to me! That wet laundry? Mine. Feeding
the Dogs? I’ll bet you have some hot dogs
in the freezer, donchya? And that next scene?
Just show up at the computer. Listen to my voice. I got this.”

So, right now, wherever you are, hear this:

Come, to Me. All who are weak and heavy laden. I. Will. Give. You. Rest.

That’s all.

Breathe.

The electricity will come back on. Who cares what I wear to the gala? And yes,
there are hotdogs in the freezer. (hot dogs and cheese! Those lucky dogs.)

And that first line….?
“One of these days Orion should probably stop being such a tight-wad and
take a cab because he spotted trouble brewing the minute he walked onto the
subway. Aw, please…not again…

Your story matters. God gave it to you, so you can expect his help, right?

So relax, show up and let God breathe into you something brilliant!
